A portion of the proceeds from this workshop will be donated to local charity Brixton Soup Kitchen.

Starting with this Autumn Yin & Yoga Nidra workshop I will be bringing a new series of seasonal workshops to Yoga Point in Brixton. This year the duration of the workshops will be 3 hours rather than 2 which will allow for a longer yin yoga practice. And by attending these workshops you will be helping a very worthwhile local charity, Brixton Soup Kitchen.

Here are the details for Joyful & Open: An Autumn Yin & Yoga Nidra Workshop:

In Chinese Medicine there are Five Elements that are central to nature’s cycles and are reflected in the cycles of our bodies. They are Metal, Water, Wood, Fire and Earth, and each element is connected to a specific season, organ system and emotion.

Metal is linked to Autumn and the Lungs and Large Intestine – all are about transformation. Just as Autumn is a time when nature begins to draw its energy inwards to prepare for the colder, darker months ahead, precious metals can be found deep in the earth ready to be discovered and transformed without ever losing their true essence.

Part one of this workshop will be a Lung and Large Intestine yin yoga practice, where physically the focus is on moving deeper into the connective tissues of the body (ligaments, tendons and fascia – the cling-film-like ‘tissue’ which holds our muscles together). In this slow practice, each pose typically lasts for three to five minutes.

This will prepare us for part two of the workshop – an extended yoga nidra (yogic sleep – a form of guided meditation practiced lying down that will bring you to the edge of sleep) of 45-50 minutes.

Imbalanced Lung and Large Intestine Qi (energy) can manifest as respiratory problems, sadness, fatigue, low immunity and colds. When Lung Qi is balanced we feel present, optimistic and more able to face life’s ups and downs with acceptance and courage.

NB – This workshop is open to all levels, but it is not suitable for pregnant students.

What is Loving Kindness Meditation?

Metta Bhavana is the original name of this practice originating from the Buddhist tradition, which can be practised by anyone regardless of religious affiliation. Metta means (non-romantic) ‘love’, kindness, or friendliness: hence ‘Loving Kindness’ for short. Bhavana means ‘development’ or ‘cultivation’. Research shows that Loving Kindness meditation has numerous benefits from reducing self-criticism and depressive symptoms (Shahar et al 2014) to increasing positive emotions such as joy, love, gratitude, contentment and hope (Frederickson et al 2008)

I have recorded this Loving Kindness meditation for you to help cultivate a deeper sense of kindness, compassion, goodwill and appreciation for yourself and the world around you.

I’m excited to be teaching another class at <a href="http://www click to read more.createpilates.com/”>Create in Wimbledon. As well as *Flow & Restore with Yoga Nidra on Wednesdays – *now at the new time of 11.45am-1pm, I am also teaching Hatha Yoga on Friday mornings from 6th January.

Meaning ‘sun’ and ‘moon’ in Sanskrit, Hatha yoga is the general term used for the physical practice of yoga in the West. In this class, attention is given to postural alignment, encouraging students to experience and explore movement and postures through the release of tension and the use of conscious breathing.

If you like small yoga classes with the space for more individual attention then you will enjoy practising yoga at Create – a lovely boutique studio that also offers Pilates (both reformer and mat), massage and rehab.

Realign with your deepest self in this New Year workshop with Patricia Carlota and I – an evening of deep relaxation for both body and mind.

Yin Yoga is a deep, meditative practice that activates the parasympathetic nervous system (calming the body’s fight/flight response). Physically the focus is on moving deeper into the connective tissues of the body (ligaments, tendons and fascia – the cling-film-like ‘tissue’ which holds our muscles together) in areas such as the hips and spine and typically involves holding poses for three to five minutes.

This will prepare the body for a calming Yoga Nidra (yogic sleep) practice – a guided meditation that will bring you to the edge of sleep, quietening the mind, reducing tension and promoting deep relaxation. We will invite the space to set our intentions (Sankalpa) during our Yoga Nidra practice, clarifying what we wish to cultivate in our lives for the year ahead, ready for a blissful Gong Bath.

A Gong Bath is a form of Sound Healing where the Gong and other related instruments are played to induce wellbeing. The term ‘bath’ signifies being bathed in sound waves. Participants are invited to lie down comfortably on a yoga mat, close their eyes, relax and be cocooned in a sonic immersion. The practice provides a space to re-generate, re-nourish, and re-set your whole being – mind, body, emotions, soul, and energy field.

Join us for this special Winter Solstice workshop – an afternoon of soothing sounds and complete relaxation for the mind and body

The Winter Solstice marks the shortest day of the year as we transition from Autumn to Winter and is a time for reflection and rebalancing – acknowledging what no longer serves us, making space to welcome in the new.

In this special workshop we will invite the space to set our “solstice resolutions”or intentions (Sankalpa) with our Yoga Nidra practice (with Paula), clarifying what we wish to cultivate in our lives as we move forward.

Yoga Nidra (also known as ‘yogic sleep’) is a guided meditation that  will bring you to the edge of sleep, quietening the mind, reducing tension and promoting deep relaxation.

Following a short tea break, the second part of the workshop will commence with a glorious gong bath with Patricia Carlota.
